  • “Any individual undergoing an invasive procedure in a hospital can attest to the hospital's inherent disruption on physical and emotional dimensions of his or her well-being. The conditions under which the procedure is performed may be frighteningly foreign and threatening to a child's and his or her parents' integrity."

  • “Catheter insertion causes mechanical discomfort along with sensations of a full bladder. Emotional distress can occur when a child's private areas are uncovered, prepped, and the catheter inserted. In summary, a pediatric voiding cystourethrogram (VCUG) procedure can and does cause physical and emotional distress to children and their families.
